In winter, of course, the ski resorts of Le Grand-Puy, Montclar and Chabanon offer amazing natural playgrounds for snow sports enthusiasts. But with the arrival of the fine weather, trail-running or hiking is a great and easy way to explore the surrounding region. And if you want to inject a bit of variety, you can go for a horse or donkey ride, or hop on your mountain bike up to the pic de Bernardez, the entrance to the Ubaye valley or the massif des Monges mountain range.  It’s also the perfect opportunity to try a paragliding flight, soaring high above the region’s most beautiful landscapes.

Discover Seyne-les-Alpes, a “village et cité de caractère” (charming village and small town)

Welcome to the old capital of the Adanates! Seyne-les-Alpes prides itself on being home to several historic buildings that you can visit, at leisure, with family or friends. Your first stop should be the Vauban citadel, an impressive 17th building, before then heading to Notre-Dame de Nazareth church and the Bastion des Pénitents. Do you like unusual local events and sights? Every year, during the month of August, Seyne hosts France’s last remaining mule competition. It’s an opportunity to admire these charming animals close-up and take part in a number of events organized especially for the occasion.

The region is, in fact, famous for its tender Sisteron lamb, delicate flavoured, black Provence truffles and its mountain charcuterie. You also have to try its lavender honey, scented olive oil, Alpes de Haute-Durance apples and Provence almonds. In terms of dishes, opt for Provençal beef stew, Provençal ravioli and savoury squash tart.
